| The Utilities Board of the City of Oneonta has made the following changes to its water rate structure:
These changes in rates are necessary due to an increase in spending to meet new government regulations and the overall cost to do business. Even with these increases, our water rates offer our customers a less expensive and more thoroughly tested alternative than bottled water. Also, the water rates in comparison with other water systems are still among the most economical while still offering our customers a product that meets or exceeds all government requirements.
These changes are effective as of January 1, 2012: All minimums and step rates will increase by 4%. The minimum gallon allowance will move from 3,000 gallons per month to 2,000 gallons per month . The average residential water customer has a monthly usage of 5,478 gallons and their monthly water bill will increase by approximately $ 6.15 with the 4% increase and the change in the minimum gallons. The Board customer who usually pays only the minimum bill and has a usage of zero gallons or less than or equal to 2,000 gallons, will have an increase in their monthly bill of $ .72. The Board customer who usually pays only the minimum bill and has a usage greater than 2,000 gallons or less than or equal to 3,000 gallons, will have an increase in their monthly bill of $5.68. |
